HEre is what happens when you get to hang out with Peaches and her band Sweet Machine! I spent 2 days with her shooting for Vestal’s 2010 campaign. Didnt really know to much about her or her music prior to the shoot. Must say, she is a huge star with big talent, and a underlying sweetness that her larger than life persona doesnt show sometimes. Gave her one of my books “Candy Sandwich”, and ended up having a child like crush on her as well. Also, her phone # starts with 666:)

Matt Taylor (guitarist for ‘The Growlers’) plays “Vandy”- his alter-ego persona. HE is a struggling night show host who wants to be cool but his show kinda stinks. It was all shot with color negative film.

After talking with Tracy Gurdine and Michelle Mason on how they wanted the S/S 2011 campaign they had mentioned the color orange, sand, rock, and wanting an indigenous feel. When i heard that Ryan Crenshaw was the model i was stoked because ive already met him and quite like his enthusiasm and sense of humor. So we packed up the car for a road trip out to wrightwood, ca. I know of this spot i have hiked after a day of skiing up there and new the rock formations and sandstone look was perfect for the shoot. FOr the lookbook i shot 35mm film using a different stock for each look. One roll i had was expired in 1996 and everything in the shadows turned a noisy green color. For the online viral video short i shot with a rare color negative 250 film, the effect of the film helped with the overall feel and it was fun shooting with so many different types of film.

This is one roll of ektachrome super8 film i developed myself, lets just say it was an unconventional way of loading film into the E6 processing machine. Also there are no after effects whatsoever put into the film, it is all natural. After the film was processed i ran it through the ringer, scraping it on the ground, using crayons and sharpies, spilled coffee, a little dirt, and a bit of a razor blade. IT was an experiment that went better than i had expected, and look forward to doing more of it in the future. Although, it did make my projector dirty from all the dust, dirt, and hair it collected.

HEre is a still from this weeks Gantez Warrior music video “WAx”. The song is mostly instrumental so i wanted a loungy scene, so i built this set with pretty much no budget for 2 days and i played off of a 1950s or 60s talk show set. The shoot ended up getting roudy and it was somewhat controlled madness. The whole time we were doing things on the fly and its gonna be a little different than i initially planned, but I am extremely happy with how everything went. Most every music video or almost every shoot, you just go with whatever is happening and things always work themselves out. Oh yah, i shot it all on 500 speed color negative film, so all you film purists are gonna love this one.

Got to shoot these young surf stars while they were in town for the U.S. Open of Surfing. Only had a few minutes with each of them, so i kept it simple and used some 35mm 3200 Ilford film for a grainy portrait. The long black smears towards the end of the roll with John John were not developed properly and i really liked what happened to em. Clay has a magnetic presence that is super mysterious, while John John was down to get squirted with a hose and i took a picture with him. Also shot some digital that will be used for Vestal closing out of the 2010 campaign.
All the photos of the band members are REAL 4×5 polaroid film and the shot of the cat (Chu-Cho) is actually occurring as i took the collage picture. He kept on putting his paws under the rug where i had the shot set up, so i called his name and he looked up to me, and that is how i got the 2 page spread. Always check out Blisssmag.com and THe Growlers new EP HOT Tropics!
